Man arrested and charged after fatal shooting at street festival – WSOC TV

ROCK HILL, SC — A 19-year-old Heath Springs man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting at a street festival that occurred Saturday in Rock Hill, detectives announced Friday evening.

Police said D’markieoun Ji’shae Clyburn shot and killed Montest Mincey, 44. The mother of three was working as a peacekeeper when she was killed, neighbors said.

A 21-year-old man was killed and two others injured.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Southland Drive.

Clyburn was charged with murder. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Rock Hill Jail, police said.

“I’m overjoyed,” said Inez DeWitt, Mincey’s aunt, about the arrest. “I’m overjoyed.”

It has been a difficult week, but the arrest has lifted the spirits of her relatives.

“Montest was a wonderful person. A wonderful young lady,” DeWitt said. “I mean, that smile was just contagious. You couldn’t be around Montet without smiling.”

The family does not believe Mincey and the suspect knew each other.

“If she was killed by a ricochet bullet, the family doesn’t expect an apology,” the aunt said. “Apologies won’t bring her back. Apologies won’t bring her back, because not only was she hit, but another young man was killed, other people were hit, and potentially an entire community event was canceled.”

Dewitt said she was very angry.

“I am very sad about my niece. She was taken away from her and she left three children who have no mother, no caring mother, no loving mother,” she said.

Rock Hill Police have set up a special tip line at 803-325-2678 and an online community portal.
