Until 7 a.m. Logan County, KY, Simpson County, KY

Until 6 a.m. Calloway County, KY, Trigg County, KY, Christian County, KY, Todd County, KY

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – We are preparing for an increased risk of severe weather across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky today and this evening.

FIRST ALARM WEATHER DAY

A variety of severe storms are in place across the Mid-State today. So you need to be prepared for the weather and have various options to be warned about impending severe weather.

Our first storms will hit around us or shortly after us Morning commute (5:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.) north of I-40 and could have a hard time falling further south. Heavy rain and damaging wind gusts will be the main threats early on. Any storm could also produce hail and a single tornado.

As we move through the Afternoon and early evening (12 p.m. – 6 p.m.) Isolated storm cells will attempt to appear in various locations across the midstate, primarily north of I-40. These storms could quickly intensify and all serious threats would be on the table. Of flash floods, devastating winds, large hail and the odd tornado.

After sunset this evening, we still expect a more organized and intense line of storms to develop to our north and west and push through the Mid State. The timing of this accumulation of strong to severe storms will be approximately between 7 p.m 9:00 p.m. this evening until the morning commute on Thursday (6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.). Again, all severe hazards are possible, including large hail and some tornadoes.

A flood watch is in effect for the entire Mid State until 7 a.m. Thursday morning

The timing of this main storm line could change throughout the day. So stay tuned to WSMV 4 for the latest updates.

TOMORROW IN THE AFTERNOON

Once the storms move out of the Mid State tomorrow morning, we’ll dry out most of the afternoon and even work on some sunshine later in the day.

Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

LATE WEEK & WEEKEND

Friday will be a much cooler day with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s, but we expect plenty of afternoon sunshine.

This weekend will remain on the cooler side with temperatures in the 70s on Saturday and Sunday. Clouds and sun will alternate on both days, and although I can’t completely rule out a bit of drizzle on Saturday afternoon, most of the area should remain dry.

NEXT WEEK

Monday and Tuesday will be warmer and partly cloudy, with highs in the low 80s.
