Missing West Jordan man found dead near Utah Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A missing West Jordan man was found dead Wednesday after last being seen Friday, May 31, according to West Jordan police.

Douglas James Steadman, 58, was reportedly last seen on May 31 at around 2:30 p.m. A Silver Alert was issued on June 4 and police said Douglas was suffering from early-stage dementia and COPD, among other conditions, but did not have the necessary medication with him.

Police were informed that Douglas had crossed Spanish Fork Canyon.

On Wednesday morning, West Jordan Police issued a Update on social media Officials said he was found dead “in the Utah Lake area,” but at this point in the investigation, they do not believe foul play was committed.

“We appreciate the response of the community and other law enforcement agencies in their efforts to locate Steadman,” police said on social media the day his body was discovered. “We extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones of Douglas Steadman.”

According to West Jordan Police, the investigation will be taken over by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office once the Office of the Medical Examiner releases a report.

Utah authorities recommend taking notes of interactions with police to record details such as the names of officers, the dates and times of interactions, the case number and what officers said.

  • Latest photos.
  • Date of birth and age at the time of disappearance.
  • Gender.
  • Detailed physical description (including any unique scars or tattoos).
  • Date of disappearance.
  • Diseases.
  • Last known location.
  • social media accounts.
