Water main break repair completed in downtown Atlanta, service restored citywide

Water service has been restored to downtown Atlanta days after several water main breaks were reported across the city.

Channel 2 Action News This Morning showed you crews working on final repairs at 11th Street and West Peachtree Street on Wednesday.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., the Atlanta Department of Watershed and Mayor Andre Dickens confirmed all repairs were complete.

Officials say the system is slowly being brought back online to allow pressures to rebuild.

“We are pleased to announce that water service has been fully restored throughout our city. Our dedicated teams worked tirelessly to resolve the issue, and I commend them for their service,” said Dickens. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents and businesses during this difficult time. Together, we demonstrated the resilience that defines our city.

A boil water advisory remains in effect until further testing is completed. The city apologized for the “unexpected disruption.”

“We know how important water is to the daily lives of our citizens and understand your frustrations with this situation. Therefore, the City of Atlanta expresses its gratitude for your support during this time,” officials said in a statement.
