First warning: rain this weekend

(KFVS) – The wet weather returns just in time for the weekend.

In the short term it will be dry and pleasant this morning, but as the day progresses the cloud cover will gradually increase from west to east.

Brian Alworth says some showers and possibly a thunderstorm will likely move into southeast Missouri during the afternoon, staying mostly west of the Mississippi. During the evening and overnight, showers and some thunderstorms will also move east into Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, which will gradually subside from west to east during the day.

Although no widespread storms are expected this evening and Saturday, the SPC says the risk is at level 1 or marginal. A bigger problem could be further heavy rainfall.

Warmer and wetter weather is expected early next week, with occasional risk of storms.

After a predominantly dry Sunday, a slightly higher probability of storms is to be expected on Monday, and a weak cold front will arrive again on Wednesday.

Behind Wednesday’s system, a drier pattern is again indicated for the second half of next week.
