Joseph Geer, former police chief of Avon, pardon agreement canceled for now

This week, a deal was expected in the case of the former police chief of the city of Avon, but instead the prosecution and defense tried to see if the deal could still be salvaged.

Former police chief Joseph Geer appeared in federal court Tuesday to answer an expected guilty plea, but as the case progressed, the details of the plea agreement became an issue. U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Wolford saw differences between the plea agreement and the prosecution and defense and rejected the plea.

Geer also worked as a school resource officer for the Avon Central School District, but this led to allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
