Las Vegas police are asking for help identifying a teenager hit by a car on Sunday

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police are asking the public for help in identifying a juvenile who was hit by a car Sunday morning.

Investigators said the accident occurred at 8:06 a.m. at the corner of East Desert Inn Road and La Canada Street.

Evidence on the scene and surveillance video indicated that a 2023 Polaris Slingshot was traveling westbound on Desert Inn and approaching the La Canada intersection.

At the same time, a boy, whom police estimated to be between 11 and 14 years old, was roller skating and crossing Desert Inn Street on a marked crosswalk.

According to police, the boy began crossing the street at a traffic light. However, when he reached the median, the light had already turned green.

Investigators said the Polaris driver’s view was obstructed by a vehicle that was in the left lane and had not yet started moving. The child then ran into westbound traffic while the light was stopped at red, was struck by the Polaris and thrown into the road.

The child was taken to the University Hospital for treatment and is in critical condition. The driver of the Polaris remained at the scene of the accident and showed no signs of impairment.

Las Vegas police are still trying to identify the teenager and are asking the public for help.

He is described as a black male between the ages of 11 and 14. At the time of the accident he was wearing a blue shirt, tan pants and roller skates. No further description was released as of Sunday afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (702) 828-3595 or UMC Social Services at (702) 383-2671.
