Brazil: Neymar’s rape accuser charged with extortion and fraud

The Brazilian model who accused soccer star Neymar of raping her in a Paris hotel room is now facing several charges in Brazil over these allegations.

According to the Associated Press, Najila Trindade, who has discussed her allegations publicly in the Brazilian media, has been charged with procedural fraud, defamation and extortion.

Neymar denied the allegations in the high-profile case that dominated Brazilian headlines this summer, claiming the sex was consensual. Neymar plays for Paris St. Germain.

Charges dropped in August

The public prosecutor in San Paulo dropped the charges against Neymar on August 8 because there was no evidence.

“It is impossible to find out what happened between the four walls,” prosecutor Flavia Merlini told reporters. “It’s her testimony against his.”

Details about the charges against Trindade are scarce. The Associated Press reports that her ex-husband Estivens Alves is accused of publishing erotic content related to the case.
