Shooting at Skyline High School graduation ceremony in Oakland leaves three injured: police

Three people were shot and a suspect was arrested at a high school graduation ceremony in Oakland, California, authorities said.

On Thursday, May 23, at around 7:45 p.m., the Oakland Police Department (OPD) was called to Skyline High School after gunshots were reported, the press release said.

Upon arrival, police found two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were treated and transported to a local hospital, police said.

Police say the third victim of the shooting was found at a local hospital. All victims are expected to survive.

USA TODAY has reached out to OPD for an updated information but has not yet received a response.

Police investigations revealed that the shooting was caused by an altercation

During the preliminary investigation, the department learned that a fight broke out between two groups as they were leaving the graduation ceremony on Thursday. The fight took place in the school’s parking lot and escalated, police said.
