Munnsville man dead after UTV accident in Stockbridge

STOCKBRIDGE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Madison County Sheriffs are investigating an early morning car crash that left one person dead in the town of Stockbridge.

On Friday, May 24, sheriff’s deputies were called to the vicinity of Haslauer Road in the Town of Stockbridge at approximately 2:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they observed a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) in a ditch on the south edge of Haslauer Road.

Officers also found the driver of the UTV – 44-year-old Shane Warner of Munnsville – in the yard of the residence. Warner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that Warner was traveling west on Haslauer Road in his UTV when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle then struck a tree, a vehicle in the driveway of a residence, and then the nearby home.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the house at 6265 Haslauer Road was heavily damaged in the crash. Police say alcohol and excessive speed played a role in the crash.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Munnsville Fire Department and the Vineall Ambulance of Oneida.

The accident remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.
