9-year-old boy killed in UTV accident in Benton County

BENTON COUNTY, Ind. – A 9-year-old boy died and his 11-year-old brother was injured after their UTV overturned in northwest Indiana.

According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a reported accident in the 6000 block of South County Road 1100 East around 4 p.m. Friday.

A caller said two teenagers were involved in a UTV accident and one of them was trapped under the vehicle.

First responders found an 11-year-old boy with minor injuries. However, his 9-year-old brother did not respond. He was trapped under the UTV.

Emergency responders began CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The Benton County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.

Assisting agencies included the Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Emergency Management Agency, Benton County Emergency Medical Services and Otterbein Area Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
