Woman dies in solo accident in Nashwauk – Duluth News Tribune

NASHWAUK – One person has died after a crash in Nashwauk.

In a news release, the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to a report of a fatal hit-and-run accident on Second Street near Larue Court around 10 a.m. Saturday.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was a 59-year-old woman from Silver Springs, Florida, and that life-saving measures were performed when emergency personnel arrived, but the victim died at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that the accident was not due to a hit-and-run incident, but rather that the victim’s truck and travel trailer were unattended when they began to roll from their parking spot and the truck and travel trailer struck the victim, according to the sheriff’s office .

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family. The accident remains under investigation.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Hibbing Fire Department, Nashwauk Police Department and Nashwauk Ambulance.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the Staff headline. Often the title “staff” is used when paraphrasing basic short messages that come from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. Sometimes this byline is used when a news story includes many authors or when the story is created by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, this will be noted in the story.
