RCB vs DC: IPL: Big blow for Delhi Capitals, captain Rishabh Pant suspended for one match | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh pants is expected to miss the match against the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Royal Challengers Bengaluru as he was punished with a fine of 30 lakh and a Suspension for one game due to his team’s slow overrate in the ongoing game against Rajasthan Royals IPL 2024 Season.
This is the third time Pant has been fined for this offense while the previous two incidents resulted in only fines. However, after violating the IPL code of conduct for the third time, Pant was suspended for one match.
The IPL’s official statement said: “Mr. Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team suffered a slow performance in the 56th match of the TATA Indian Premier Over quota.” League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024.”
“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, have each been individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” the statement added.
Delhi Capitals appealed the match referee’s decision under Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The appeal was referred for consideration to the BCCI Ombudsman, who conducted a virtual hearing and confirmed the match referee’s decision as final and binding.
In the game against Rajasthan Royals last Tuesday, Delhi Capitals secured a 20-run win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Batting first, DC totaled 221/8 in their 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Jake Fraser McGurk (50 off 20 balls) and Abhishek Porel (63 off 36 balls) as well as a cameo from Tristan Stubbs (41 from 20 balls). Ravichandran Ashwin (3/24) was the standout bowler for RR.

In response, RR lost their openers early but skipper Sanju Samson (86* off 46 balls), Riyan Parag (27 off 22 balls) and Shubham Dubey (25 off 12 balls) kept them in contention. However, Sanju’s dismissal proved to be a turning point and left RR falling short of the target.
