Pedestrian fatally struck by car in Wallkill

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on a busy street in Wallkill Friday evening, according to police.

According to authorities, the victim was pronounced dead around 11 p.m. after being struck by a Ford Escape on Route 211 near the Route 17 interchange.

The driver remained at the scene and police interviewed witnesses after the incident.

According to authorities, Route 211 is one of the busiest roads in the region.

State police said they closed the westbound lanes while they investigated. The lanes reopened sometime after midnight.
