Police investigate Sunday shooting at Marycrest Shopping Center – Shaw Local

Joliet – Joliet police were called to the Marycrest Shopping Center early Sunday after shots were fired.

At approximately 3:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of West Jefferson Street after receiving reports of shots fired in the mall parking lot.

According to a press release from Joliet Police, officers found more than 100 vehicles in the parking lot and several people exiting the vehicle. Officers reportedly found several handgun shell casings in the parking lot.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Officers found that the windows of a vacant store had been damaged by gunfire, but the store was unoccupied at the time of the shooting.

Joliet Police Sergeant Tizoc Landeros said the investigation is ongoing and police have no information about events nearby that would explain the presence of so many cars. However, there is a bar in the mall that is open until 3 a.m.

Joliet police are working to identify a suspect in the incident. Residents with information or video footage are asked to call the JPD’s Investigations Division at 815-724-3020 or contact Will County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-323-6734.
