Motorcyclist killed in collision with SUV in Washington City

WASHINGTON CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in Washington City Sunday morning, according to Washington City Police.

On July 28 at approximately 7:00 a.m., police received reports of an accident involving a red Jeep Rubicon and an older Harley-Davidson motorcycle at Coral Canyon Blvd. and Telegraph St.

Officers learned that the motorcyclist – an adult male – had been thrown from his motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Based on statements from the other driver and witnesses at the scene, police said the Jeep was traveling east on Telegraph St. when the driver turned left and headed north on Coral Canyon Blvd. At the same time, the motorcyclist was traveling west on Telegraph St. and passed through the intersection.

The motorcyclist collided with the front bumper of the Jeep as it turned into the intersection, police said.

“At this time, it appears the driver of the Jeep did not see the motorcycle coming when he made the turn,” said a press release from Washington City Police. “The driver of the Jeep is cooperating with the investigation and no formal charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.”

Coral Canyon Boulevard at Telegraph Street was closed until about 1 p.m. Sunday while police investigated.

The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time, but police said he is believed to be a resident of Washington City.

“The Washington City Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim of this tragic accident,” the press release said. “We also want to thank everyone who assisted with this incident.”
