7-year-old boy shot on Dan Ryan Expressway, state police said

According to the Illinois State Police, a seven-year-old boy was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning.

The young victim was driving northbound in the express lane on 73rd Street when shots were fired from an unknown vehicle at around 2:40 a.m.

The driver of the victim’s vehicle stopped at the corner of East 22nd Street and South Michigan Avenue to call for help, according to ISP. The boy was taken to the hospital with injuries.

While police investigated, northbound lanes at the scene were closed for about an hour, but reopened shortly before 5 a.m., according to ISP.

Police did not provide any information about the boy’s condition and said the investigation was still ongoing.
