2-year-old found dead in car in Monticello

News 12 has learned that police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old child in a car in Monticello on Tuesday.

Monticello police said they received a 911 call at 6:43 p.m. reporting that a child in a vehicle in front of Building 14 of the Hollow Apartments on Terri Lane had gone into cardiac arrest. Officers said efforts to save the child were unsuccessful and that the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

News 12 was on scene during authorities’ investigation and saw a car seat on the sidewalk outside the vehicle.

Sources told News 12 that the child died after being left in the hot vehicle, a Ford Explorer, for more than an hour, although authorities have not confirmed this.

The investigation is being conducted by state police. News 12 has asked authorities for more information.
