Lucknow: Five people were arrested on Monday for the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. Shivgarh police officer Shyam Kumar Pal said the girl had gone to a field to work on Saturday when the accused approached her. Amit Kumar, Manoj Verma, Neeraj, Ramu Lal and Rohit Singh forcibly took her to a deserted place and then took turns to rape her, he said. “The girl fell unconscious while the accused fled. After regaining consciousness, she came home and narrated the ordeal to her parents,” Pal said. She was admitted to a private hospital and a complaint was filed on Sunday, he said. Pal said five teams were deployed to arrest the accused, all of whom hail from a neighbouring village. They have been sent to jail, he said. tnn
