Repairs to the burst water pipe on San Jose Boulevard stall, lane closures extended for another week

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A week after a burst water main forced the closure of four lanes of busy San Jose Boulevard, work is expected to continue throughout the week and into the weekend, according to JEA.

Two southbound inner lanes from Plummer Cove Road to Old River Road and two northbound inner lanes from Ricky Road to Claire Lane must remain closed throughout the water main repair work, the JEA said.

The utility company expects the work to continue throughout the week and into next weekend.

Repair work stalled because the ground was so waterlogged that workers could no longer safely excavate without additional equipment.

As crews work to repair a water main 25 feet below street level, they must bring in a crane to reinforce the excavation and focus on the repair.

During repairs, drivers are asked to consider alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.

Motorists who must use this section of San Jose Boulevard are asked to obey all construction signs, detours and general instructions from crews working on site.
