Madison Bergman

An elementary school teacher in Wisconsin was arrested and accused of sexually abusing a student.

According to online court records, 24-year-old Madison Bergmann is charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a child.

KARE 11, CBS News and KSTP report that Bergmann is accused of texting the 11-year-old alleged victim “almost daily,” citing indictments. KARE reported that authorities claimed the text messages included messages about “making out.”

CBS reported that a search of Bergmann’s backpack also allegedly revealed a folder with the boy’s name on it, which contained handwritten notes the two allegedly wrote to each other during the school day.

It is not immediately clear whether Bergmann has hired a lawyer or entered a plea.

The Hudson School District has sent a statement to parents of students in the district.

“We are all deeply troubled by the news of the alleged inappropriate and trust-breaking behavior of a school employee,” said a message from the school to parents published by KARE. “We understand the seriousness of the situation and are committed to providing the necessary support to each affected child. We politely ask the school community to respect the privacy of Hudson students and their families and to refrain from spreading rumors or speculation.”

According to the media, Bergmann was placed on leave.
