Knife robbery investigation leads to charges against man after incident at corner shop in South Essex

A man has been charged after police were called to a knife robbery at a Rochford shop

The police were called around 6 a.m.1.50am on Sunday (June 30) with reports of a robbery at a supermarket on West Street.

According to reports, a suspect entered the store, demanded cash and left with a double-digit amount.

Officers were on scene and investigations continued throughout the week.

This work led to an arrest on Thursday.

A man, 37-year-old Jay Phipps of Rochford Garden Way, Rochford, has now been charged with robbery.

He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded in custody pending a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court on August 5.
