Chennai: A 9-year-old boy and a 10-month-old baby are attacked by dogs following a Rottweiler incident

Following a recent attack by a Rottweiler dog, two more incidents of dog bites were reported in the city on Tuesday. A 9-year-old boy was injured in Alandur and a 10-month-old baby was injured in Navalur.

Chennai: After a recent incident in which two Rottweiler dogs attacked a five-year-old girl, two more incidents of dog bites occurred in Chennai on Tuesday. In Alandur, a 9-year-old boy named V. Ashvanth suffered serious injuries when he was bitten by a Siberian Husky. Ashvanth, the nephew of a policewoman, was spending his summer vacation at the St. Thomas Mount police headquarters. While playing with other children, Ashvanth came across the dog, which belonged to a police chief named Karthikeyan, who lived in the same area.

According to a Times of India reportThe incident took place around 7pm when Karthikeyan’s 12-year-old son was walking the dog on a leash. This unfortunate event follows a similar incident two months earlier in which the same dog had bitten another child, the seven-year-old son of the police officer. Ashvanth’s uncle Balaji, also a police officer, immediately lodged a complaint at the St Thomas Mount police station.

Residents, including police personnel, are reportedly prohibited from keeping pets such as dogs and cats. You must sign a corresponding agreement before moving in.

In another incident in Navalur, a 10-month-old baby named Dhruv Vishwam was injured by a Pomeranian in a residential complex. Girish, the baby’s father, had taken Dhruv to the complex’s park when another resident, Velayutham, arrived with his dog. The Pomeranian, usually known for his friendly nature, unexpectedly injured the infant. Dhruv was quickly rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Kelambakkam Deputy Commissioner of Police V Venkatesan assured that an FIR would be registered regarding the Navalur incident. “Pomeranians are usually friendly. We have to ask how this incident happened. However, pet owners should keep dogs on a leash,” he explained.

In a related development, the Maduravoyal police addressed complaints from the MMDA Colony Residents Welfare Association regarding a resident, Johnson, who was allegedly raising over ten dogs on the premises. Residents expressed concerns about hygiene and cleanliness due to dog breeding activities. Following the complaints, police have created a Community Service Register (CSR) and are taking action to address the situation.

Another Rottweiler dog attack

A few days ago, a five-year-old girl in Chennai was seriously injured after two Rottweiler dogs attacked her at a park in Thousand Lights area on Sunday evening. Police have registered a case of negligence and arrested the dog’s owner. Two other handlers of the dogs were named as defendants in the case.

The dog’s owner allegedly let go of the canines and did not intervene until the girl’s parents rushed to rescue the girl and raised the alarm. The girl’s father works as a security guard in the park.

Senior police officer Shekhar Deshmukh said that they have arrested the owner and registered a case against two others who are looking after the dogs.
