59-year-old arrested for sexually abusing a minor in Siliguri – Siliguri Times

Siliguri, June 24: An elderly man (59) was arrested from Ashighar police station for sexually abusing a minor in Siliguri.

According to reports, the minor was left alone at home for a few days while her parents went to work. During her absence, an elderly man from the neighbourhood is said to have committed the crime. After her return, the minor informed her parents about the incident and a formal complaint was filed at Ashighar police station on June 12.

The police launched an investigation and found that the accused had fled. However, based on a tip-off, the police were able to arrest the suspect in his apartment on Sunday.

The accused was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday. Investigation into the matter is underway.
