Former Hennepin County Commissioner candidate arrested for assault

A new candidate for Hennepin County 6th District Commissioner was arrested Friday on suspicion of assault.

Marisa Christina Simonetti, 30, was arrested Friday night in Edina on charges of assault and domestic violence. Simonetti was in custody Sunday evening, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

No further details about Simonetti’s arrest have been released so far.

In May, Simonetti lost a special election for Hennepin County 6th District Commissioner to Heather Edelson, who received 54.4% of the vote.

The special election came after former 6th District Commissioner Chris LaTondresse resigned last September to lead an affordable housing organization.
