Two teenagers arrested in connection with fatal shooting in north Phoenix

PHOENIX – Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in May.

A woman contacted Phoenix police around 8 a.m. on May 28 to report that she found her boyfriend, 22-year-old Carlos Mercado Chavez, dead of gunshot wounds in his vehicle near 32nd Street and Greenway Road.

Police arrested 19-year-old Derrick Teague on Friday and another teenager on Saturday. Both were charged with murder and armed robbery.

Officials say the two teenagers planned to rob Chavez and eventually shot him. What led to the shooting is unknown.

ABC15 is working to obtain more information about the arrest of the teens.
