Man who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband found guilty on five counts by California jury – WFTV

SAN FRANCISCO – On Friday, a man who attacked House Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer in the 2022 Senate election was found guilty by a California jury on five counts.

According to the Associated Press, a San Francisco jury on Friday found David DePape guilty of first-degree burglary, false imprisonment of an elderly person, threatening a family member of a public official, deterring a witness and aggravated kidnapping.

According to the New York Times, DePape now faces life without parole in a California state prison.

According to KRON, a spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi issued a statement.

“Speaker Pelosi and her family continue to be impressed by their father’s bravery, which was again on display on the witness stand in this trial, just as it was when he saved his own life the night of the attack. For nearly 20 grueling months, Mr. Pelosi has demonstrated extraordinary courage and strength on each day of his recovery. The Pelosi family is grateful for the kind thoughts and prayers they continue to receive. Speaker Pelosi and her family will refrain from further substantive comment until the verdict is announced.”

In May, “David DePape was just sentenced to 30 years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for his violent attack on the wife of the then Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California said.

A jury convicted DePape, 44, of kidnapping and assault in November. He was sentenced to 20 years for one count and 30 years for another, with both sentences to be served concurrently and credit for the 18 months he spent in custody, the AP reported.

According to AP, the attack occurred a few days before the 2022 midterm elections. Paul Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and injuries to his right arm and hand in the attack.
