WARNING — Keep the doors of your house locked and call the police if you suspect anything unusual

Kearny police are warning residents again: Keep your doors locked at night and if you suspect anything unusual in your neighborhood, such as a barking dog, flashlights or unusual activity, notify police immediately. In fact, Police Chief Scott Macfie says there is no reason not Call the police if you suspect something. The police would rather go to a false alarm than not be alerted to a possible crime. Also pay attention to your surroundings. The police need residents to act as eyes for the officers, as they obviously cannot be everywhere all the time.

So why this warning?

Early this morning, a group of four men, one of whom was armed with a crowbar, attempted to break into a house in the Manor area of the city. Fortunately, a police officer arrived on the scene and the quartet made off, but not before police noticed that one of them had a crowbar. In fact, no house was burglarized.

The direct phone number for the Kearny Police Department is (201) 998-1313and of course there are also 911 call.

Don’t be disappointed – play it safe and call if you notice anything unusual.

And again, remember to lock your doors every night and be vigilant – and that goes for everyone reading this, not just the residents of the Manor.
