Two teenagers arrested, several weapons seized after altercation

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Peoria police announced the arrest of two teenagers following a “violent, physical” altercation at a South Peoria apartment complex earlier this month.

Korion Hopkins, 18, was arrested for aggravated assault, mob action, false imprisonment and because he had an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest. A 16-year-old boy was also arrested for aggravated domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, mob action, obstruction of reporting domestic violence and theft.

There was also a Peoria County warrant out for the minor’s arrest for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a machine gun and trespassing.

The charges stem from an incident on June 8 at the Greenwood Estates apartment complex, 725 W Hurlburt St. This location was formerly known as the Village Green apartment complex.

The incident was described as a “violent, physical altercation between a man and a woman,” but by the time officers arrived, the man and others had already fled the area, bringing with them several firearms.

The officers managed to find live ammunition at the crime scene.

Peoria police and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office monitored the intersection of West Laura Avenue and Cortland Avenue on Wednesday before searching a home suspected of being connected to one of the individuals.

Both Hopkins and the 16-year-old were inside the home and were ordered by officers to exit the building. They did so and were taken into custody without incident.

A total of six firearms were seized from the residence, including three Glocks – one of which was equipped with a switch that allowed it to fire like a machine gun – a Polymer 80 pistol and an AK-47-style rifle.

Hopkins was taken to the Peoria County Jail and the 16-year-old was taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center, according to Peoria Police Sergeant Amy Dotson.
