Man shot dead by police in Auburn, Maine incident – ​​NECN

Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting early Saturday morning in Auburn, Maine.

Maine State Police said they responded to a report of an incident at a home on Russell Avenue at around 12:57 a.m.

According to a police report, a woman reported that her partner was involved in an argument with another person who tried to break into her apartment with a gun.

According to authorities, the woman fled the house after hearing gunshots, but was later found hiding.

According to police, the woman identified the burglar as 43-year-old Leein Hinkley.

According to police, Hinkley shot at them and was heard yelling at police from inside the building.

Hinkley then went to another apartment building and began yelling at officers from a rooftop with a gun in his hand, police said.

Authorities said he was later shot by the Maine State Police Tactical Team and two police officers.

Both police officers were placed on leave.

The incident is under investigation.
