1 dead and 2 missing in capsizing accident of South Korean fishing boat

SEOUL, June 13, 2024 (BSS/Xinhua) — A sailor was declared dead and two others are missing when a fishing boat capsized in waters off South Korea’s southwest coast, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday.

The 33-ton trawler capsized in waters northeast of Gageo Island in Sinan County, about 310 kilometers southwest of the capital Seoul, at around 3:18 a.m. local time (Wednesday 6:18 p.m. GMT).

Of the nine people on board the ill-fated ship, the captain was found dead and two sailors are missing.

The remaining six crew members were rescued when the Coast Guard dispatched patrol vessels and aircraft to the scene.

Search operations have been launched to find the missing Indonesian sailors.
