Barn fire in Westport results in several animals being killed

WESTPORT (WBSM) – A barn fire in Westport severely damaged a property and killed several animals Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to Sodom Road Tuesday morning after reporting a barn fire around 7 a.m

A Westport road surveyor initially observed the fire and called 911 before attempting to help the homeowners remove the livestock from the barn.

The Westport Fire Department said the fire quickly spread to the attic of the building, which was surrounded by a residence.

Mutual aid tankers and locomotives from Little Compton, Tiverton and Dartmouth Fire District 3 were also called to help contain the flames.

The fire department reported no injuries, but several animals died in the fire and could not be saved.

Fire on New Bedford Acushnet Ave. February 12, 2022

Sixteen people were displaced as New Bedford firefighters battled a fire in an apartment above a flower shop on Acushnet Avenue on the afternoon of Dec. 2.
