FSIS Issues Health Alert for Southwestern Style Salad Bowls with Chicken Due to Mislabeling and Undeclared Allergens

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for a salad product labeled “Bistro Grande Southwestern Style with Chicken” because it contains false claims and undeclared allergens. The salad product labeled “Southwestern Style with Chicken” may actually contain Chicken Caesar Salad with wheat and fish (anchovies), known allergens that are not disclosed on the product label. FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure consumers with allergies to wheat and fish know not to consume this product. A recall has not been requested because the affected product is no longer available.

The salad bowls were packaged on May 28, 2024. A health warning applies to the following product (see labels):

  • 11.75 oz bowls of “Bistro GRANDE SOUTHWESTERN STYLE WITH CHICKEN WITH SALSA RANCH Dressing” with a best before date of “JUNE 12, 2024,” timestamp of “08:59,” lot code “217638176,” and establishment number “P-27497” printed on the label.

These items were shipped to retail locations in California and Nevada.

The problem was discovered when the manufacturer notified FSIS that it had received a consumer complaint that a salad product labeled “Bistro Grande Southwestern Style with Chicken” contained Chicken Caesar Salad.

There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumption of these products. Anyone who suspects illness should consult a doctor.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
