Group is running a door-to-door membership campaign in Marple: Police

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Police say a group has been canvassing for membership door-to-door in Marple Township for several months.

Marple Township police said Working America, a community organization of the AFL-CIO, will be conducting a door-to-door membership organizing drive in Marple starting now through at least August 2024.

The search was limited to 11 hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., police said. Working America employees typically go door-to-door between 3 and 8 p.m., officials said.

According to police, Working America is considered a nonprofit organization by the IRS and does not require permits.

According to a Working America field manager, their “recruiters are professionally trained and sometimes wear prominent photo IDs and red safety vests indicating their affiliation with Working America.”

“The purpose of our organizing campaign is to educate working people about issues that affect them and to attract new members,” the director said. “Our organizers do not sell any products.”
