DraftKings sets Rebels as 3-point underdogs in 2024 opener in Houston

In 2024, head coach Barry Odom and the UNLV Rebels look to follow up on Rebel football’s most promising season in forty years. They will begin this new campaign on August 31 in Houston, with the match being broadcast on Fox Sports 1.

In previous years, a Power Conference program might view a matchup against a G5 team like UNLV as a cakewalk. However, that does not appear to be the case in this event, at least in the eyes of some major sportsbooks.

DraftKings currently has UNLV as an underdog, with Houston a three-point favorite. Both teams have odds of -110.

UNLV had five one-score wins last summer, three of which were wins. That included a three-point win over Vanderbilt in Las Vegas.

2024 is Odom’s second season at the helm of the Rebels after finishing with a 9-5 record last year. Houston will have Willie Fritz at the helm for the first time, after hiring him away from Tulane during the offseason.

Houston was 4-8 last year in Dana Holgorsen’s final year at the helm of the program and the program’s first as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

Adding one final layer of intrigue for bettors considering UNLV’s chances: Houston’s first two games last season came by a one-score margin, both against G5 competition, and Houston went 1-1.
