GILLETTE, Wyoming – The City of Gillette says camper rules will be temporarily suspended beginning in July to address a shortage of accommodations for the 2024 International Pathfinder Camporee.

Effective June 7, the Gillette City Council intends to temporarily suspend city ordinances that prohibit RVs, trailers and recreational vehicles in all residential areas between July 31 and August 13, according to a news release.

According to the press release, this action was taken in response to the anticipated shortage of housing in the community as Gillette hosts the Camporee, which will take place August 5-11.

“Property owners who wish to accommodate someone with a mobile home, trailer or camper on their property during this time must obtain a free permit from the city,” the release states. “Permit applications are available in the Planning Department on the second floor of City Hall.”

According to the press release, RVs and trailers must be pitched, leveled and parked exclusively on private property on concrete, asphalt or gravel surfaces and are not allowed in yards, on lawns and irrigated areas. Tents are an exception, but restrooms must be provided.

Overnight camping is not permitted on public rights-of-way, streets, and city property, including parks, open spaces, sewers, and other facilities. All campers, RVs, and trailers must be connected to city utilities, including water, sewer, and electric meters.
