First Alert weather warning for extreme heat in the desert until Friday night

A Level 1 weather warning is in effect until this evening as Day 3 of extreme heat increases the risk of heat-related illness. Temperatures have reached 109° so far Friday afternoon.

A heat warning remains in effect for the entire Coachella Valley. Although temperatures in the valley floor did not threaten records, this was the first major heat of the 2024 summer season.

Stronger winds are forecast for Friday night, with gusts up to 30 mph expected, especially in wind-prone communities. Windy to gusty conditions will be present throughout the weekend, especially in the evenings. You can check the current air quality in your location here.

Temperatures will drop by Sunday, with highs closer to seasonal averages to usher in the next work week. Next week will be moderately warm, but cooler than what we are currently experiencing.
