Suspect hides in Flagler County home after attacking deputy: Sheriff Rick Staly

According to Sheriff Rick Staly, a man barricaded himself in his home after committing a serious assault on a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in the F section of Palm Coast on Forsythe Lane. The surrounding area is cordoned off as police work to contain the incident, Sheriff Staly said. Residents are urged to seek shelter and stay away from the area.

Officers responded to a disturbance call on Wednesday morning. A person, whose identity has not yet been established, is said to have aggressively attacked an officer. He has now “barricaded himself in his house,” said Sheriff Staly.

No further details about the incident have been released, including the officer’s condition and the circumstances of the alleged attack.

Sheriff Staly said police will “be in the area for a while due to the dynamic nature of this incident.” They have requested the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, a bomb disposal unit and other equipment to assist.

The SWAT team and sheriff’s office negotiators are on the scene trying to calm the suspect’s situation, Sheriff Staly said. They hope to bring the incident to a “peaceful end,” the sheriff added.
