DMV TRAFFIC: Accident on I-495 in Silver Spring claims one life

Seven people were treated for injuries at the scene. The cause of the fatal collision is not yet known.

SILVER SPRING, Maryland – A serious multi-vehicle crash in Silver Spring on the inner loop of I-495 claimed one person’s life and caused significant traffic backups early Wednesday morning.

Montgomery County Fire and EMS responded to the inner ring between Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue at approximately 2:45 a.m. on a report of an entrapment crash. Upon arrival, they found three vehicles involved and several people suffering injuries. One person was also ejected from a car.

One of the vehicles had also rolled onto its side.

Seven people were treated for their injuries at the scene, including one person who was trapped and freed and another who died, according to fire department spokesman Pete Piringer. No information has been released about their identities, including their names, ages and origins.

There is no further information available about the cause of the fatal collision.

The Maryland State Police and Department of Transportation are directing traffic out of the inner ring because all lanes there are closed, causing a backup.
