9-year-old girl dies in bizarre accident on Californian motorsport track

A 9-year-old girl died Sunday after a collision at a motocross track in Southern California, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, the Riverside County sheriff said.

Brooke Carlton was riding an electric motorcycle on a trail designated for off-road vehicles when she was struck by another juvenile who was also riding a motorcycle, the sheriff’s office said.

When officers arrived at the motorsports park, Brooke was unconscious and the Samaritans performed “life-saving measures” on her, authorities said.

Brooke’s death was pronounced at a hospital less than 90 minutes after the crash, the sheriff’s department said. The other teen involved in the crash was treated at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

On a GoFundMe page for the girl’s family, Brooke was described as an “absolute sweetheart” who “could brighten anyone’s day with her warm smile and head of light blonde curls. Anyone who REALLY knew Brooke knew she was a real tomboy who knew what she wanted and there was no getting away from it.”

Brooke idolized her parents, grandparents, her dog “Gunner” and her brother Landon, the laudation states.

“Yesterday, the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track,” the family wrote on the website. “Our whole family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with Him.”

Brooke’s parents could not be reached for further comment Tuesday afternoon.

In an Instagram post, the motorsport park also paid tribute to the “little girl” who enjoyed motocross.

“We are truly saddened by the situation. This was as freaky an accident as the parents said,” the post said. “This is not a time to disparage the racetrack, but a time to think of this little girl and support her family. We are a community and will do our part to support the family as well.”
