Motorcyclist seriously injured after accident while under the influence of alcohol

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – Warwick police are investigating a crash involving a car and a motorcycle that occurred late Saturday night.

According to a press release, police were called to the 2000 block of West Shore Road shortly before 10 p.m. for an accident involving an SUV and a motorcycle.


The first emergency calls said that the motorcyclist had been run over by the SUV and was lying injured on the ground.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the motorcycle, a 43-year-old man, lying on the road with a serious head injury.

He was conscious but bleeding heavily. Emergency personnel treated the victim on scene and took him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the SUV fled the scene before they arrived.

While speaking with a witness who observed the accident, officers were able to locate the SUV and driver a short distance from the accident scene.

They said the SUV suffered severe damage as a result of the impact with the motorcycle.

The suspect, a 45-year-old woman, showed signs of impairment and was presumably under the influence of alcohol.

She was taken into custody and transported to the Warwick Police Department for arraignment.

The name of the suspect and the specific charges are not currently being disclosed.

The Warwick Police Traffic Unit Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
