Concerns have been raised about a dog attack in Monroe County

BROADHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Residents in Monroe County are concerned for their safety after they say dangerous dogs have been terrorizing their community for years.

On Monday, local officials intervened to reassure residents.

The dogs’ owners are now facing charges including reckless endangerment of another person and felonious assault.

Police in a recent report named two women they believe are responsible for the wild dogs.

They believe these dogs have killed several animals, including a woman’s beloved dog.

“I literally reached out to the governor’s office yesterday because I know he literally just passed a dangerous dog law a few months ago,” said Heather Delanoy of Sun Valley.

Neighbors who live in the Sun Valley community in Monroe County say they have been dealing with dangerous dogs terrorizing the neighborhood for months

According to a recent police report, Mary Jo Dredger and Thresa Hancock were named as responsible for the animals’ behavior.

This isn’t the first time dredgers and their animals have come under scrutiny from law enforcement.

Almost five years ago, she pleaded guilty to harboring three dangerous dogs. Police said they would then have to register each animal, obtain insurance and pay court fees.

That’s why we can’t even let the children play outside anymore because we’re afraid they’ll attack the children,” Delanoy explained.

According to police, the dogs attacked and killed a local cat as well as chickens and turkeys housed in a chicken coop.

Police also say the same dogs killed a neighbor’s dog in April.

The victim’s owner says the damage to her five-year-old dog named Lady was severe.

“It tore her stomach and butt to pieces and broke all her ribs. “My dog was so badly damaged internally that I had to put him down,” said Melissa Brown of Sun Valley.

Brown said after this most recent attack, she contacted the dog warden and called authorities to report the incident.

“If we don’t get home from the vet. “I immediately called state police to file a police report and let them know that my dog was attacked because it is certainly not the first time these dogs have attacked someone in this community,” Brown added.

Neighbors who recently filed a police report after their animals were attacked say the dogs came from this house on the road and were picked up and returned by people who live here.

“There are a lot of videos of these dogs coming from up here, my neighbor across the street has videos of them leaving the yard,” Brown continued.

Neighbors say they hope police can take action soon so they don’t have to live in fear of local dogs.

“I hope there are criminal charges. I hope there are big fines. I hope these dogs are taken away from these people and they are no longer allowed to own other animals,” Brown said.

28/22 News attempted to speak with one of the dog’s owners but was unable to obtain comment.

The dog’s owners face fines and prison sentences if found guilty.
