Several Vancouver to Houston United passengers complain of flu-like symptoms after disembarking from cruise, officials say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Multiple agencies told ABC13 that members of a group of travelers who disembarked from a cruise in the Pacific Northwest arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday with flu-like symptoms.

Houston firefighters said they were called to Terminal C at 6:20 p.m. regarding dozens of sick people aboard a flight from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They had just left a cruise.

According to HFD, up to 30 people in a travel group of about 75 people became ill. First responders assessed three patients, but none required transport to the hospital.

Firefighters added that the patients showed symptoms related to the cruise, complaining of nausea.

United Airlines confirmed the situation, saying several passengers on the same cruise were feeling unwell and were on board Flight 1528 on Friday.

The company added that the plane had been removed from service for a thorough cleaning before resuming flights.

According to United, Flight 1528 was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with 163 passengers and six crew members on board.

Eyewitness News is still working to get information on the cruise involved with the sick passengers.
