Wife of rodeo star sends desperate message to fans as son fights for life after semi-trailer crash

The distraught wife of rodeo star Spencer Wright has sent a desperate message to her fans after her son Levi nearly drowned in an accident involving a toy tractor.

Three-year-old Levi has been clinging to life for more than a week after doctors feared he was brain dead when he drove his toy tractor into a raging Utah river.

In an update Thursday, his mother Kallie refuted fans’ theories about her son’s recovery on Facebook, saying: “This has completely consumed us. Please don’t think for one second that we haven’t done our homework. It’s been non-stop!”

The family had previously stated that they were taking the recovery “step by step” and that Levi had undergone a series of MRIs and scans since the tragic accident.

Levi escaped from his family in a toy tractor (pictured). His mother reportedly jumped into the river to rescue him after he disappeared into the current.

The tragic accident occurred on May 21, when Kallie was outside watching Levi play on his semi-trailer. She briefly went home to check on her nine-month-old son.

When she returned a few moments later, Levi was nowhere to be found and she frantically plunged into the raging Beaver County River to search for her son in the flood.

Kallie called emergency responders and they found Levi in the creek about a mile downstream. He was flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The Wrights prepared for the worst, saying they planned to “stop treatment and keep him close to them until his last breath” after doctors declared he was unlikely to survive.

But two days later a miracle happened: Levi woke up from his coma on Thursday evening.

In her Facebook update, Kallie said she felt the need to tell her fans about Levi’s recovery, especially to “get things off her chest.”

Spencer Wright’s son Levi has been in critical condition for over a week after driving his tractor into the Beaver River near their home in the southwestern Utah town of Milford.
Kallie shared an update on her son’s recovery and urged fans to stop giving nonstop advice about his recovery

“I will address a topic that comes up again and again, namely hyperbaric chamber therapy for brain injury,” she wrote.

1. Hyperbaric chamber therapy is not an option when a child like Levi is on a ventilator. To even consider this option, his health must first be stable enough. But he is not stable enough to leave this place.

2. If he cannot breathe on his own (cannot control his airway), a tracheostomy is required. This is a device that is inserted through an artificial hole in the throat and leads to the lungs via a tube. Now think about that!

“In addition, he will need an NG tube (a feeding tube through the nose) and in the long term possibly a G-tube, which will require surgery and another artificial hole in his side.

3. Spencer and I have spent the last week exploring these and other therapies, and we have come to the conclusion and feel that in our situation, these therapies cannot get Levi to where he would be happy, if they were even an option.

“HIS happiness comes before ours, period.”

Although many people had expressed their opinion on what they should do, the mother concluded: “Please do not think for a second that we have not completed our homework, we have worked non-stop!”

In another update from the previous day, she said doctors had tried to “stop the sedation, but (Levi) did not tolerate it well.”

The family had previously stated that they feared the worst as Levi was almost brain dead after the tragic accident.

Photos on social media show Kallie holding her son in her arms as they both lie in his hospital bed and his father stands nearby.

Kallie has been sharing lots of updates on her son’s recovery with us, writing on Sunday: “This is an experience and deep in my heart I pray you never have to know what I am slowly going through.”

“It’s a rollercoaster ride that you enter involuntarily and blindfolded. You don’t know what’s coming next. You just have to wait and ride it out. We live it day by day.”

She talked about what kind of brain injury her son might suffer and the uncertain consequences the future holds.

“The term ‘brain injury’ is very broad, there are different areas and different levels of severity. No two brain injuries are the same, even if the accident was similar. No two brains recover the same or differently.

“There is a lot that doctors don’t know, but what they tell you is based on reputable medical literature and history.”

Spencer has also spoken out to encourage his fans to donate money to a boy his age who is being treated for sepsis caused by meningitis in the room next to Levi.

Three-year-old Taysen Baum has suffered blood clots, strokes and a brain injury due to the infection. His parents, like Levi’s parents, are praying for a miracle so their boy will survive.
