FHP: Man from Fernandina Beach and Hilliard killed in accident in Yulee

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred Tuesday evening on US Highway 17 near Quail Ridge Road.

YULEE, Fla. – A Fernandina Beach man and a Hilliard woman were killed in a head-on collision in Yulee Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to FHP, at 6:40 p.m., a 1991 Dodge pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. Highway 17, north of Quail Ridge Road, while a 2018 Kia Sportage was traveling south on the highway, also north of the road.

The FHP accident report states that the 58-year-old Fernandina Beach man “lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer into the southbound lane and directly into the path of the Kia Sportage.”

The report goes on to say that the front of the Dodge pickup collided with the front of the Kia. And after the impact, “the pickup rolled over and eventually came to a stop,” according to the report.

“The Kia eventually came to a stop eastbound in the southbound lane,” the report said.

The Fernandina Beach man and the Hilliard woman who was riding in the Kia were pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. The driver of the Kia, a 53-year-old Hilliard man, was seriously injured in the crash, FHP said.

Police did not disclose the identities of those involved in the accident.
