Patrol car crashes into building in East Boston

BOSTON – A patrol car crashed into a store in East Boston on Tuesday evening.

The Boston Police cruiser crashed onto a normally busy sidewalk on Chelsea Street. The police officer involved in the accident was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

A witness sent WBZ pictures showing another grey vehicle that was initially towed away from the scene of the accident.

Neither neighbors nor customers of the nearby hair salon were injured. The area was closed to traffic while the patrol car was towed away and the accident scene was safely cleared.

Investigators have not released any further information about the crash.
