During the incident, Rowland was recorded shouting at a security guard at the Cannes Film Festival. While her behavior was criticized by some, her co-presenters defended her.

“We are very dismayed by the videos we are seeing from Cannes. They need to put things in perspective and tell us what is going on here,” Kotb told Sylvester.

Sylvester then explained the controversy that was going on. “Apparently there’s a security guard at Cannes who doesn’t keep her hands to herself,” he said. The TV star then shared the viral video, which shows Rowland calmly walking down the red carpet until a security guard repeatedly harassed her. This caused the singer to become agitated and firmly tell the security guard, “Don’t talk to me like that.”

Kotb then shared that she was confused about the intentions of the security guard on the carpet. “What is she protecting her from? I don’t understand what she’s trying to do. What is she protecting her from? Or what is she doing?” she said.

“We also just want to say that Kelly Rowland is our girl,” Bush Hager also clarified.

Kotb then chimed in again: “Yes. It felt like people were walking all over her, and we know she always carries herself with grace and class.”

After the moment went viral, Rowland responded to criticism of her behavior. “I have boundaries and I stand by those boundaries, and that’s all. There were other women on the carpet who didn’t look quite like me, and they weren’t insulted or pushed away or told to get off like that. I stood firm, and she felt like she had to make her point. But I stood firm,” she told the Related Press.
