Former bar security guard sentenced to life in prison for fatal sucker punch attack

Columbus, OH – A bar security guard was sentenced to life in prison for punching a 37-year-old man outside an Ohio bar. Chrystian Foster, 34, learned his fate Friday in the death of Gregory Coleman Jr., whose family expressed deep sadness in court.

The victim was attacked outside a bar in Columbus in the early morning hours of September 5, 2022 and suffered serious injuries. The incident caused Coleman to fall into a coma and require life support following a fatal blow that ended in death, leaving his prospects for recovery uncertain.

Coleman’s family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the defendants involved in the attack and the now-closed bar. Hosea Smith, representing the victim’s family, made her intentions clear during the trial and emphasized the irreparable damage caused by the tragic event.
