Phelan man killed in hit-and-run identified

Authorities have identified a 43-year-old Phelan man who was struck and killed by a car in a hit-and-run earlier this month.

According to San Bernardino County coroner’s records, Dustin Robert Odum died after the collision, which occurred just after 7 a.m. May 2 along Johnson Road between Phelan and Nielsen streets.

He was walking along the west side of the road when he was struck by a car traveling north, California Highway Patrol officials said at the time. The car continued driving without stopping to help.

First responders found Odum lying on the side of the road, fatally wounded. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

The vehicle that hit him left parts at the scene, investigators said. Based on the debris, it was believed the car was a black or dark gray sedan. The right side of the bumper as well as the hood, fender and headlight would be damaged.
