Protesters against it Tesla Inc‘s (NASDAQ:TSLA) attempted to storm the company’s factory on Friday, damaging several of the company’s electric vehicles and even injuring several police officers during its expansion efforts at its gigafactory in Berlin.

What happened: According to the protest organizing group Disrupt TeslaAround 800 people took part in the protests on Friday. The demonstrators reject the expansion of the company’s facilities because, in their opinion, it is harmful to the environment. The EV giant aims to double the factory’s capacity for battery production to 100 gigawatt hours and car production to 1 million units per year.

“Tesla represents workplace accidents, water shortages, deforestation, pollution and exploitation here and around the world,” Disrupt Tesla claimed.

According to the Brandenburg police, 16 people were arrested on Friday at 7 p.m. The demonstrators temporarily blocked road and rail traffic, some even climbed over the fence at Neuhardenberg airfield and damaged 24 Tesla vehicles with paint. Although several tried to enter the Tesla factory premises, they were prevented from doing so by police personnel, police said.

Police action and investigations are still ongoing, they added.

Tesla CEO reacts: Tesla CEO Elon Musk On Friday he criticized the action against the company. “Something super strange happened because Tesla was the only car company attacked!” Musk said

“Any idea who is orchestrating and funding this?” Musk asked in another post, hinting at a larger campaign against the company. However, he also claimed that there would be numerous protests across Germany throughout the week as it is “National Protest Week” in the European country.

Tesla ordered a planned one-day production shutdown at the factory on Friday in anticipation of the protests.

This is fake news.

The demonstrators were unable to break through the fence line. There are still 2 intact fence lines all around.

Note that this is “National Protest Week” in Germany and therefore there are many protests for many different reasons.
